Mod Roc is a plaster impregnated gauze, containing a special resin which overcomes the major disadvantage of plaster for modelling in that it is more chip-proof, whilst maintaining the advantages of ease of use, speed of setting and capacity for fine detail. An armature of Mod Mesh wire netting, aluminium modelling rod, withes or wood can be covered with a basic shape of dampened newspaper tied with string, to make a strong rigid frame. Mod-Roc is then immersed in tepid water for about 3 seconds, squeezed gently and ‘bandaged’ onto the frame. The surface may be smoothed while damp, fine detail is possible with fingers and modelling tools whilst 3 dimensional shapes may be added with moulded sections. Finished models are best painted with acrylics.
